Editorial Policy

Pink Noise Sleep publishes evidence-based information about sleep, colored noise, auditory health, and related sleep-science topics. All health-related content on this site is held to rigorous editorial standards and reviewed by a qualified medical professional before or after publication. This page explains how content is created, reviewed, updated, and corrected.

Our commitment

Every health claim published on Pink Noise Sleep is checked against peer-reviewed research and reviewed by Maria Pia Ghezzi, MD, a physician with 20+ years of clinical experience. Commercial relationships do not influence medical conclusions on this site.

Editorial Standards and Purpose

Pink Noise Sleep exists to help readers make informed decisions about sleep sounds, noise colors, and auditory health tools. Content is created to be accurate, clearly sourced, and free from exaggeration. We do not publish health information designed primarily to promote products or to rank for search terms at the expense of accuracy.

Every article on this site aims to answer a genuine reader question with the most accurate, current, and appropriately caveated information available. Where the science is uncertain, limited, or preliminary, we say so explicitly — including sample sizes, methodological limitations, and the distinction between correlation and causation.

Content is written by editors with subject-matter familiarity and reviewed for medical accuracy by our Medical Reviewer before or after publication. No article carrying a "Medically reviewed" byline is published without that review having taken place.

Medical Review Process

All health and sleep-related content on Pink Noise Sleep is medically reviewed by Maria Pia Ghezzi, MD, a physician with a medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina, and postgraduate training in Medical Audit at Hospital Militar Central, Buenos Aires. Dr. Ghezzi has 20+ years of private clinical practice and is bilingual in English and Spanish.

During medical review, Dr. Ghezzi evaluates the following:

  • Whether health and physiological claims are supported by peer-reviewed evidence
  • Whether cited studies are accurately represented, including study size, methodology, and limitations
  • Whether safety thresholds — particularly for volume exposure and infant sleep — are correctly applied and consistent with AAP, WHO, and NIOSH guidelines
  • Whether medical language is appropriately caveated for a general readership
  • Whether the article clearly distinguishes between established evidence and preliminary findings

Medical review is not a guarantee of absolute accuracy and does not constitute clinical medical advice. Readers with personal health concerns should consult a qualified healthcare professional. Articles are re-reviewed when significant new research is published or when content is substantively updated.

A complete list of reviewed articles is available on the Medical Reviewer profile page.

Sources and Evidence Standards

Pink Noise Sleep uses the following hierarchy of evidence when researching and reviewing health claims:

  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses — highest priority for establishing clinical consensus
  • Peer-reviewed primary research — indexed in PubMed, Sleep, Sleep Medicine Reviews, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, and equivalent journals
  • Clinical guidelines from recognized bodies including the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), World Health Organization (WHO), CDC/NIOSH, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)
  • Government and public health agencies — including CDC, NIH, and equivalent international bodies
  • Primary research — where no higher-level evidence is available, with explicit notation of study limitations

We do not cite anonymous sources, press releases as primary evidence, or studies that have not undergone peer review. Where research is limited or preliminary, we state this clearly and do not overstate findings.

Updates and Corrections

Sleep science evolves. Articles on this site are reviewed and updated when:

  • New peer-reviewed research materially changes or challenges information already published
  • Clinical guidelines from recognized bodies are updated
  • A reader or medical professional identifies a factual error
  • Routine scheduled review identifies information that is outdated

When an article is updated, the dateModified field in the article header is updated to reflect the date of the change. When a medical re-review is performed, the "Last medically reviewed" date in the article byline is updated accordingly.

Corrections: if you believe an article contains a factual error, please contact us via the contact page with the specific claim and supporting evidence. Material factual errors are corrected promptly. Minor clarifications are made without notice. Significant corrections affecting medical safety information are prioritized.

Editorial Independence and Commercial Relationships

Pink Noise Sleep maintains strict separation between editorial content and commercial relationships. The following principles apply without exception:

  • Medical review conclusions are not subject to override or influence by advertisers, affiliate partners, or sponsors
  • Dr. Maria Pia Ghezzi holds no financial interest in any sound machine manufacturer, sleep app, or noise therapy product mentioned on this site
  • Affiliate relationships, where they exist, are disclosed in the relevant content. Affiliate revenue does not influence which products are recommended or what health information is published
  • Sponsored content, if published, is clearly labeled and is not presented as independent editorial content
  • No external party has editorial control over the health information published on this site
